Maintenance Services
C-E Services has extensive experience in maintenance and maintenance management - including maintenance of software-intensive systems. C-E Services can advise on how best to support your business-critical system or provide assistance to ensure that your existing maintenance team follow processes and practices. Alternatively, we can use our extensive and broad experience to setup entire maintenance workshops and maintenance procedures to meet your organisation’s inventory needs.
For several years now C-E Services has been performing annual maintenance and repair work for the RAAF's radome on Bathurst Island. Such activities include:
- Bolt Tension testing
- Bolt tightening
- Panel condition assessment
- Caulking (if necessary)
- Surface Polish (to maintain hydrophobic qualities)
Why is polishing a radome so important? Quite simply, if you don't maintain the hydrophobic qualities of the surface, the very radome you've invested in to environmentally protect your asset inside, will in fact diminish the performance of your asset during rainfall. If you need further convincing, read the following papers:
- From the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Helsinki - Measurements of the transmission loss of a radome at different rain intensities
For your convenience, the conclusion states "at the rain intensity of 22.1 mm/h the effect of rain is 1.5 dB lower with the waxed radome than with the dirty radome when two way loss is considered. In the case of a complete radome the effect of waxing would most likely to be greater"
- From NASA, USA - Attenuation of Weather Radar Signals Due to Wetting of the Radome by Rainwater or Incomplete Filling of the Beam Volume
Of relevance here, the paper states that the level of attenuation due to rainfall "could be reduced by about a factor of three by coating the radome with a hydrophobic substance if the coating were properly maintained"

We are adept at managing installation and maintenance duties in remote areas, like Bathurst Island. This is why our customers keep coming back to us.
We also maintain shipborne radomes belonging to the Royal Australian Navy. We have performed repair work for these assets on behalf of BAE Systems and Thales Australia, and retain the only known service that performs this service on-site, reducing logstics costs and time associated with repair significantly.

We maintain an excellent relationship with MFG Galileo, the OEM for both radome types.
